Unix - MTP

First metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint fusion is often
indicated for painful arthritis or to correct
deformity.
Weightbearing is maintained and propulsive gait is
achieved by movement at the interphalangeal joint.
Successful 1st MTP joint arthrodesis requires precise
positioning of the great toe and stable fixation to
promote bone
fusion.
Unix cup-shaved cannulated reamers have major
advantages :
1 - One optimal diameter. 18 mm diameter of curvature
allows maintenance of a cup-shaped congruence to allow
arthrodesis positioning. (A larger diameter causes
cuts to be flatter).
2 - The creation of congruent surfaces helps promote
bony healing and consolidation.
Phalangeal valgus and dorsiflexion can be adjusted
without compromising congruity. |
